General Information

Santa Barbara Junior High School has a long and proud history. Many local citizens are graduates and have fond memories of their middle years spent at this beautiful, historic landmark. SBJHS was the first junior in the City of Santa Barbara, it was established in 1924. We have been at our current location since the opening of the building in 1932. The school is situated in the heart of the Eastside community of Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara Junior High is the home of the Marjorie Luke Theatre, a cultural and community performing arts center.  Students from the elementary feeder schools of Cleveland, Cold Spring, Franklin, Montecito Union,  Peabody, Roosevelt, and Washington make up the majority of our student population of over 820 students. SBJHS attendance boundaries provide the school with a variety of students from varying economic backgrounds. Santa Barbara Junior High is committed to promoting opportunities for academic excellence and developing personal and civic responsibility in a safe, respectful and caring environment. We abide by our motto that is engraved on the building dedication plaque at the entrance to the school – “Truth, Liberty, Toleration.”
