Junior High School

AVID

The AVID Elective targets students in the academic middle with the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. Typical AVID students will be the first in their families to attend college, and come from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education. These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but are falling short of their potential.

AVID places these students on the college track, requiring them to enroll in their school’s toughest courses, such as Honors and Advanced Placement®  (High School). To support them in the rigorous coursework, AVID students learn organizational and study skills, develop critical thinking, learn to ask probing questions, receive academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities to make their college dreams a reality.

Incoming 7th grade AVID (Application Deadline February 18, 2023)

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness in a global society. AVID is a national College Readiness Program that seeks underrepresented students who are motivated to do rigorous coursework necessary to become college-ready. AVID students enroll in the AVID Elective throughout junior high school to receive the academic and personal support needed for high school and college success.
