Beginning Band/Orchestra: This class is for students that have played their chosen wind or string instrument for one year or less. In this class we will develop the physical skills necessary to play simple band music accurately and with good tone quality and develop skill in reading musical notation. We will explore and perform music from a variety of cultures and historical contexts including rock, hip-hop, folk, mariachi, blues and classical.
Advanced Band/Drumline: This class is for students with 2 years of experience playing a wind instrument and students with any level of experience that want to learn to play marching drums and percussion. The first half of the school year, all enrolled students learn to perform using marching drums in preparation for a parade performance. The second half of the year, wind students will return to playing their wind instrument and drummers will begin learning to play concert percussion. This class will work on classic band literature preparing for concerts and festivals.
Jazz Band: This class is for students with 2 or more years experience on their instrument. In this class we learn the history and performance techniques of America's music; Jazz! Students with guitar, bass, piano, drum kit or wind performance experience are invited to join this class.
